The Steading Livery and Training Centre - SORRY ALL LIVERY SPACES FULL

At the home of help4horses, The Steading Livery and Training Centre is a small yard between Dunfermline and Kinross.  With a high standard of care, excellent facilities, support and tuition as and when needed you can be sure your horse is in safe hands.

I offer 5 or 7 day full or part livery only and:
  • Consistent, professional and routine 1:1 care - your horse is treated as an individual at all times
  • All year turn out - 23 acres split into winter and summer fields
  • 9 Large internal brick stables with mats and drinkers
  • 2 seperate 14 x 14 outdoor stables with access to all-weather turnout paddock used for training horses or horses requiring restricted turnout
  • Secure tack-room with individual lockers
  • Wonderful hacking in next-door Blairadam Forest
  • Newly refurbished floodlit 50x25m woodfibre outdoor arena
  • Separate 20m roundpen (soon to be undercover!)

Part Livery includes all bedding, feed (not supplements), hay or haylage, turnout OR bring in, hose legs if required, pick feet, change rugs.  All you need to do is muck / skip out and either bring in OR put out.  This service is really handy for people with a busy lifestyle but still have time to visit their horse every day.

Full-livery includes all of the above plus muck out and put out / bring in.  Horses are also held for vet / farrier etc.

Both services include a late night check and hay / water top-up as required.

Winter service: all horses are brought in pm and turned out during the day.

Summer service: all horses are brought in during part of the day for a rest from the grass (and the flies!) and turned out over night.  Feed and hay supplied when in. Fatty paddocks available if required.  Horses can be kept in at night and out during the day if you prefer.

Full livery horses can be brought in for clients arriving to ride etc.  For an extra cost, horses can be exercised for you.

Limited numbers – quality not quantity important to guarantee happy horses!

Retirement, Holiday or Convalescing livery:

  •       Due to the peaceful and settled atmosphere we can offer a secure and quiet place for your retired horse to live out their days,  help your horse recover from injury or give you piece of mind that while you are enjoying your holiday, your horse is enjoying theirs!  As well as Equissage sessions to help maintain health and well-being, I can provide Equine Touch sessions as well as groundwork to help keep an interest in life and/or to start to bring an injured horse back into work.

Training

  •       I have a separate paddock with 2 stables for training horses.  I take horses in for remedial training or backing/starting in a non-stressful manner. Starting a young horse correctly is possibily the most important stage in its life and it is therefore important that time and effort is taken. All horses are worked for several short sessions a day rather than in one big block.  This breaks down the learning for the horse and allows them to take things in gradually.

All horses are treated as individuals and after an assessment the owner will be advised of suggested training and estimated timescales.  Owners are advised to be as involved in the training as possible and if this is not possible a hand-over session will be arranged before the horse is handed back.  I also provide a report of daily training sessions carried out and work to be carried forward once the horse goes home - please remember that, as with all training, I am providing the horse and you with the necessary skills to proceed, it's up to you to continue using them

Lessons

We currently hold regular training days / riding lessons with Mette Tranter.  Mette has worked and trained with Peggy Cummings of Connected Riding and all here at the yard have found the lessons inspirational .  If you are interested in learning more about this system you are welcome to come and watch initially or you can find out more about the system by clicking on the link.  Peggy herself will be back in Scotland on 8, 9 and 10th October 2010 and will be hosting private 1:1 lessons here on the 8th.  Please contact me if you are interested ONLY 4 SPACES LEFT!

Port Lewis Impression Pad
I have a “Port Lewis Impression Pad” available for hire.  This will give a pressure readout of your own saddle, with you riding after 30 mins, which could help pinpoint the physical causes of any troubles you might be having. This should not be used instead of a regular saddle check by a fully qualified Saddle Fitter, but it can be used to check that your saddle continues to fit properly throughout the year.
